Hemis Tsechu
The festival takes place on a special scale every twelve years, when the monastery's greatest treasure, an immense thangka of Padmasambhava, embroidered in pearls, is exhibited. Ceremonial mask dances are performed in the courtyard of the monastery.
Paro Tsechu
The four day festival invokes the blessings of the gods and keeps away misfortune. An 18m thangka is unfurled on the final day of the Tsechu.
Punakha Tsechu
On the 11th and final day of the festival, the thangka featuring the Shabdrung is displayed. The dancers re-create the battle scene, after which a procession of monks goes to the river, accompanied by music.
Thimpu Tsechu
The Thimpu Tsechu is one of the biggest and most spectacular of the Buddhist festivals. |
