A desert city, Nagaur is named after the Naga Rajputs and was, through its tumultuous history, a bone of contention between Hindu and Muslim rulers.. Its fortress is ringed by sturdy walls, proof of the dangers it faced.
The Nagaur fair is one of the largest fairs held in the country. Fine bullocks, cattle, camels, horses and poultry are traded at this fair. Four days of hard bargaining amidst fun & frolic, camel races, song and dance, make this a much looked forward event in Nagaur and the surrounding areas. The chilli crop is harvested and is sold wholesale at this fair. Piles of red chillies can be spotted all over the fair ground.
