On the coast south of Tuticorin, the impressive Tiruchendur shore temple is one of the six abodes of Lord Murugan and is very popular with pilgrims. There are caves with rock-cut sculptures along the shore. You may be able to enter the inner sanctums here and watch the enthusiastic proceedings. Be careful if they offer you a gulp of the holy water – pouring it over your hands and rubbing them together joyously is an acceptable substitute for drinking it!
