HALF DAY TOURS IN DELHI

Delhi, the capital of India is perhaps one of the most happening places in our country. The kind of architectural and historical beauty that surrounds this place is mind blowing and utterly fascinating. With various historical monuments, institutions, markets and structures, this place has rightly been crowned as the capital city.

A walk through the markets of old Delhi

Old Delhi’s backbone is an iconic shopping strip, dotted by temples, snarled by traffic and crammed with stores selling everything from, spices, street food to saris. Tiny bazaars lead off the main drag, so you can dive off and explore these small lanes, which glitter with jewellery, decorations, paper goods and more
What this tour is about:

Old Delhi is without doubt, the busiest market area in Delhi. It dates back to 1638, when Emperor Shahjahan shifted his capital from Agra to Delhi. His daughter Jahanara constructed a square, around which a busy market grew. Today, this part is home to silversmiths, repair shops, clothiers, spicy street food vendors and traditional sweetmeat shops. During this walk, we will explore not just the bazaar, but also the cultural landscape of this area.
Places we will visit: We will visit Dariba Kalan (the silver market), Kinari Bazaar (wedding market), Khari Baoli (The spice market) and Paranthewali Galli (Lane of Parathas). We’ll visit Gurdwara Sees Ganj Sahib, built at the site where Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, was beheaded for refusing to convert to Islam. We will go past Jama Masjid, Delhi’s famous Friday mosque. We will also see Hindu temples, Jain derasars and churches, all standing cheek-by-jowl, making up the amazing tapestry of religion in India.

Total Walking Time: 2-3 hours depending on your interest.

Best time for this walk: October to March
